In the ship designer you should be able to upgrade all components to the latest with one click. There's lots of small inconveniences throughout. I'd much rather prefer troop transport fleets kept their hotkey assignments after deployment and reembarking. When you lift all your troops off from a planet it should autoselect the fleet, and ideally autofollow a combat fleet in orbit, if one exists Upgrades should be queuable while under construction or queued for construction Planet tile building should allow disabling the "oh noes you will block a resource" dialog and auto-increment to the next slot after placing a building. Switching hull sections - which all have the same armor/power/shield sections anyway - shouldn't clear the common bits Things like engine upgrades ought to be immediately applied to everything across the board. It should also be easier to create variants and keep everything upgraded. Weapons should be sorted better - why do I have to scroll through every weapon when I clicked on an XL or PD slot? And why does every iteration of every tech appear? I won't ever care about T1 power generators when I have T5 available.

GalCiv was tolerable here, planets were rarer, more valuable things and special resources were infrequent and had more impact, plus the UI made it easier to queue up buildings I dislike most of these as they encourage unnecessary micromanagement. Little annoyances like that abound across all systems. Building a lab then having to come back to upgrade it to a specializarion, then having to come back to queue up all upgrades, is two more returns than should be necessary. Hoping QoL refers to UI in general, not just combat. Unless they're adding Orkpedoes as a troop delivery method, ground combat is the least of my complaints. I'll be really interested in what they come up with when they do start work on the major warfare DLC they've hinted is coming. It looks like they are focusing on the total experience while making quality of life improvements to combat. He's also talked about starting over on the planetary invasion system. I saw the project lead say that he would not have designed the game with multiple travel systems, but he doesn't want to scrap them now.

They definitely know they need to focus on warfare. That said, the combat, even in the best 4X, is still going to be secondary to the overall story arc I'm playing out.

Take what spoils that earned you and repeat as necessary.īut I can't, because I can't effectively micro more than two fleets at full speed, and anything shy of that is like watching bacteria grow. If one had perfect control/patience, you could draw off that 200k AE doomstack and sack every planet in one coordonated strike: War over. This may be why they made the AI so dumb. I've beaten bigger foes with better tactics mostly because the AI lacks adequate tactics, but the UI is more of a hindrance than the actual combat mechanics. For some reason when winning comes down to just having more stuff it annoys me, as if there is no skill involved. However it still just irks me that warfare is purely a numbers game.

Ah what the heck - I'll try focusing on the overall story of a play through like a sci-fi TV show instead of the warfare. I mean certainly the military is certainly one aspect, but its not the only one. I kinda like the stories/events that make a playthrough unique. It's a really neat game but what's the point of my space empire if the battles aren't fun. I kind of regret buying the Utopia expansion now.

I have previously enjoyed Stellaris abit but the combat is making me lose interest the more I play.
